Western Hunan Province is a mountainous region and a place of incredible natural beauty. It is best known as the home of the Zhangjiajie National Park, a World Heritage listed area of peculiar sandstone quartz peaks, primeval forests and hundreds of endangered wildlife species.
Located in western Hunan province, the famous tourist city of Zhangjiajie, (400 km away trom Changsha), is the home of China's first forest and national park - the Zhangjiajie National Forest Park - and a World Natural Heritage site Wulingyuan.Zhangjiajie is the pearl of WulingyuanThe king of the peaks in Wulingyuan is the Tianzi Mountain. Local legends say that an ancient Tujia chieftain who aspired to become Tianzi (Son of Heaven) gathered his people and launched an uprising on this peak. This is virgin land teeming with mystery. There is a bridge overpass, two pools, three ancient temples, four gates, five waterfalls , six caves, seven scenic spots, 84 natural view platforms and 9,990 peaks
The new cableway on Mt. Tianzi is 2,084 meters long. runs across the dizzying peaks (over 240 of the them rising over 1000m), allowing spectacular views.You can see mountain-climbers struggling to reach the top of Mt. Tianzi. and even Sedan-chairs. Many rocks are shaped like animals and fairies, and each is given its own legend.
There is also a cable way to Huangshi Village
'Feng Huang' is Chinese for 'Phoenix', the mythical bird of good omen and longevity that is consumed by fire to be re-born again from the flames. Feng Huang Cheng or Phoenix Town is so called as legend has it that two of these fabulous birds flew over it and found the town so beautiful that they hovered there, reluctant to leave
Feng Huang Cheng is a wonderful example of what villages were like prior to the onset of modernization.
